{"id":10223,"date":"2016-09-30T16:37:37","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T21:37:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/?p=10223"},"modified":"2016-10-02T09:09:23","modified_gmt":"2016-10-02T14:09:23","slug":"support-for-first-time-grant-writing-award-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/support-for-first-time-grant-writing-award-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Support for First-time Grant Writing Award Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Faculty Development is pleased to announcement the recipients of this year's Support for First-Time Grant Writing awards.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Jeremy Cohen, Assistant Professor of Psychology<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\"Dynamic Connectivity Modeling of Human Emotion Networks during Social Stress\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Dr. Cohen will apply for a 2-year, $100,000 grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Institutes of Health's<\/a>&nbsp;Small Research Grant Program. This grant will enable Dr. Cohen and Dr. Jeffrey Rouse at <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.tulane.edu\/som\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tulane School of Medicine<\/a>&nbsp;to study \"brain network connectivity models of threatening social stimuli\" as well as \"test the feasibility of using real-time fMRI biofeedback to adjust levels of activity in key emotional regions-of-interest.\"<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Samrat Dutta, Assistant Professor of Chemistry<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\"Examining the Interactions of CO<sub>2<\/sub> with Ionic Liquids\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Dr. Dutta will apply for a 3-year, $250,000 grant from&nbsp;the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netl.doe.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Energy Technology Laboratory's<\/a>&nbsp;Support of Advanced Fossil Resource Utilization Research by Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Other Minority Institutions program. This grant will help Dr. Dutta study \"sequestering CO<sub>2<\/sub> from the atmosphere with ionic liquids\" in order to reduce the amount of water and energy wasted by current methods of capturing CO<sub>2<\/sub> produced by coal-powered plants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Morewell Gasseller, Assistant Professor of Physics<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\"Investigation of Aerosol Properties by Atomic Force Microscopy\"<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Dr. Gasseller will apply for a 3-year, $300,000 grant from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Science Foundation's<\/a>&nbsp;Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program: Research Initiation Award. This grant will help Dr. Gasseller use&nbsp;\"microscopy techniques to study [...]&nbsp;the effects of aerosols on the atmosphere, climate, and public health.\"<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a part of the expanded mission CAT+FD adopted in 2015, the Support for First-Time Grant Writing initiative provides faculty members who have never served as a primary investigator with release time to develop, write, and submit <span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">their first grant proposals<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">. This initiative is funded by a generous grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/mellon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Andrew W.
