{"id":3215,"date":"2014-04-28T08:20:22","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T13:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/?p=3215"},"modified":"2014-04-28T08:20:22","modified_gmt":"2014-04-28T13:20:22","slug":"ipad-apps-for-use-in-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/ipad-apps-for-use-in-education\/","title":{"rendered":"iPad Apps for Use in Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had the privilege of attending several virtual sessions of the <a href=\"http:\/\/sloanconsortium.org\/conference\/2014\/et4online\/welcome\">Sloan Consortium conference on Emerging Technologies<\/a> recently.  Several of the sessions were interesting and quite useful.  The first session I'll report on is the one on using iPads in education.<\/p>\n<p>Author Sam Glicksman was the presenter.  His book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/iPad-Education-For-Dummies-Gliksman\/dp\/1118375386\">iPad in Education for Dummies<\/a> was well-received and is a great way to get started using iPads with your students.  In the presentation, Mr. Gliksman talked about a few trends and apps to engage the students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/explain-everything\/id431493086?mt=8\">Explain Everything<\/a> is an app that allows students to add text and video while recording in real time--very much like an interactive whiteboard but more features.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newschooltechnology.org\/2013\/02\/explain-everything\/\">New School Technology<\/a> reviewed this app and has a nice video to demonstrate the features.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/q2NaXidDBuY?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gliksman also suggested having the students explore <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/time-lapse\/id449510304?mt=8\">time-lapse<\/a> photography and experiment with a few of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipadanimation.net\/index.html\">animation<\/a> apps.<\/p>\n<p>What great ways to enhance student engagement and foster creativity!
