Some of the questions first-time online instructors ask Dr. Smith are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How do I know it\u2019s the learner doing the work?<\/li>\n<li>How do I know it\u2019s the learner taking the test?<\/li>\n<li>How do I know they aren\u2019t looking at their books during the test?<\/li>\n<li>How do I balance effort and points?<\/li>\n<li>How do I see the lightbulb turning on or the blank stare?<\/li>\n<li>How can I teach online and still have a balanced life?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Smith\u2019s book, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiley.com\/en-us\/Conquering+the+Content%3A+A+Blueprint+for+Online+Course+Design+and+Development%2C+2nd+Edition-p-9781118717141\">Conquering the Content: A Blueprint for Online Course Design and Development, Second Edition<\/a>\u201d is a practical guide to creating online courses. In it she answers these questions. <\/p>\n<p>The publisher\u2019s description of the book states,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Time is of the essence in getting a course online, but it's important that pedagogy not get lost in the crush of new content. Course design is just as critical as course content when it comes to distance learning outcomes, and Conquering the Content provides a holistic and practical approach to effective online course development.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you are new to teaching online you may find this book a great resource to help you with your online course.
