{"id":9678,"date":"2016-03-31T11:14:28","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T16:14:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/?p=9678"},"modified":"2016-03-31T11:14:28","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T16:14:28","slug":"twitter-now-offers-accessibilty-features-for-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cat.xula.edu\/food\/twitter-now-offers-accessibilty-features-for-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter Now Offers Accessibilty Features for Photos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Karen Nichols<\/p>\n<p>Photos have become such an integral part of Twitter and now they can be accessible to the visually-impaired.\u00a0 Earlier this week, Twitter added the capability of including descriptions of your photos (you may know the feature as <a title=\"definition of alt text\" href=\"http:\/\/webaim.org\/techniques\/alttext\/\" target=\"_blank\">alt text<\/a>).\u00a0 This is a great way to reach more people and this new feature serves as a reminder that we should always use \"alt text\" when we post photos.<\/p>\n<p>Here's how to enable this feature on your Twitter account:<\/p>\n<p>\"Enable this feature by using the <strong>compose image descriptions<\/strong> option in the Twitter app\u2019s accessibility settings. The next time you  add an image to a Tweet, each thumbnail in the composer will have an <strong>add description<\/strong> button. Tap it to add a description to the image. People who are  visually impaired will have access to the description via their  assistive technology (e.g., screen readers and braille displays).
