Judea

Judea is the name of the area around the city of Jerusalem. Jerusalem itself was important because it housed the Temple where Jews worshipped and it was a governmental center. The arrest of John the Baptist in Judea certainly made the climate hostile for those associated with John the Baptist, including Jesus. Mark 1:14 states that Jesus "went to Galilee" after John the Baptist was imprisoned, which suggests that Jesus was not in Galilee, his home area, when John the Baptist was arrested. Probably Jesus was still in the desert in Judea.
