Jesus's rejection by his "family"

However, it was not just the citizens of Nazareth who rejected Jesus. There are indications in the Gospels that even his own family members had trouble with his activities.

Mark 3:20-21 "Then Jesus went home. Again such a large crowd gathered that Jesus and his disciples had no time to eat. When his family heard about it, they set out to take charge of him, because people were saying `He's gone mad!'"

Comment: Who are the "people" who were saying that Jesus had gone mad? It is interesting that when Mark has Jesus speak of this rejection in his home town, Jesus says "A prophet is respected everywhere except in his own home town and by his relatives and his family (Mark 6:4)." The Gospels do, however, portray Mary as a woman of faith. His mother is one who has heard the word of God and obeyed it (Luke 8:21)
