Odysseus and crew are finally on their way home after the war, but Zeus, angry that the Greeks haven't made the proper sacrifices acknowledging his role in their victory, causes storms and disputes which make for rough going. After nine rough days, they meet the lotus eaters, a group of people who have a lot of fun, thanks to their consumption of the lotus flower. This confrontation provides Odysseus and his crew with the first of their tests.
