The "Meeting of the Chiefs" was a good opportunity for the audience to hear Dr. Ted Jojola speak about the Pueblo Indians and Mr. Montana to tell the history of the Yellow Pocahontas, as well as, the rest of the Mardi Gras Indian groups. I was especially intrigued by Mr. Montana because he spoke on all aspects of Mardi Gras, for the origin of the songs and dances to the art of costume making and competition among tribes. He also discussed the aim of the masking tradition and how it has changed from violent to peaceful-all through creative expression.

I believe that this project will be memorable for all of its participants. The work that is involved in putting on a project of this magnitude will reflect in the final product. Because this project requires input, decision-making, research, and dedication on all levels from Marshall Students to faculty at both schools. The Jazz Festival will be a day of great pride. This interaction is necessary for young people (Xavier as well as Marshall students) to grow and understand one another. When Dealing with people form different backgrounds, you need something to bridge the two together, so one can make "sense" of the other. This is the overwhelming importance of the Apple Project.
