Significance | Pighius was a Dutch humanist and Catholic theologian. His Affirmation of the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy emphasized the infallibility of the pope and the councils. His ideas were influential in the Council of Trent, but his theory of "double justification" in which righteousness is imputed to some but inherent in others was condemned by the council. |
