Significance | Prierias was a Dominican theologian who was appointed as "Master of the Sacred Palace" in 1515 by Pope Leo X and commissioned to respond to Luther's 95 Theses . His Dialogue laid down four foundations that set the stage for Luther's condemnation. He argued that the pope is the head of the church, that the pope cannot err, one who denies the teaching of the church and the pope is a heretic, and that the church can establish customs in regard to faith and ethics. |
