SPIG Minutes for Friday, May 14th, 2004

The minutes of the 5-7-04 meeting were reviewed, amended, and approved.

Consultants Update

Todd distributed a copy of the contract letter from Cheryl Hilinski, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of The Collaboration for the Advancement of College Teaching and Learning. The letter concerned the external consulting team that will work with the Center staff and the strategic planning group. Todd asked the members to read the letter before next week's meeting, at which time the group will plan for the conference call.

Faculty Development Program Description

Todd distributed a new draft of the Center's mission — program — values document, which includes a new program description. The group approved the description with minor punctuation changes. The group also suggested a few changes to the mission statement based on its interest in having the Center work with, when appropriate, Xavier students and staff, and others outside of Xavier. Todd will make these changes to the document and distribute a new draft via e-mail.

Supplemental Instruction Program

Lanny introduced to the group a formal program known as the Supplemental Instruction Program. Lanny will be attending a conference on this program and will report back to the group what he learned. Based on Lanny's description of the program, David noted that it sounds like a great concept for the basis of a grant proposal.
