The Encounter with the Cyclops

Your Turn...

  1. You are one of the men who survived the expedition on the island of the Cyclops, and you have been asked to appear at a hearing regarding Odysseus's handling of this matter. It is up to you whether you will accuse him of irresponsible leadership or whether you will praise his judgment and creative handling of a particularly stressful situation. Prepare your statement, either a statement of support for Odysseus or a statement of accusation. Write your response.
  2. Pretend that you are Polyphemos, and you've just arrived home for the evening to discover that Odysseus and his men have been hanging out in your cave. Write a paragraph from his point-of-view. How would you justify your actions, Polyphemos? Write your response.
