The Bottom Line: Should I Use XHTML?

If you obsessively validate all your documents, then you might want to use XHTML. Don't bother to convert old documents. Do use XHTML from now on. If you have access to a Web authoring tool that writes perfect XHTML every time, then by all means go for it. But normal human beings are advised to stick with HTML 4.01 for now.
