Current Initiatives

  • Course Portfolio Working Group: A course portfolio is a scholarly project reflecting the choices an instructor makes in designing, implementing, and evaluating a course.

  • Faculty Communities of Teaching Scholars (FaCTS): The Faculty Communities of Teaching Scholars (FaCTS) initiative is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support faculty in planning and implementing innovative curriculum and/or pedagogical projects over the course of an academic year.

  • Fall Faculty Book Club: During the fall semester CAT sponsors a book club for Xavier faculty.

  • Midcourse Review: Discover what your students really think about your teaching.

  • Preparing Mentors and Advisors at Xavier (P-MAX): P-MAX is a training program that is designed to provide participating faculty with the knowledge and skills needed to mentor and advise undergraduate students, especially those engaged in research.

  • Support for First-Time Grant Writing: It is typically the case that a faculty member's first grant is the most difficult one to get funded.

  • Scholarship Travel Mini-Grants: Academic departments have less money to allocate for faculty travel. Yet, this travel is very important, especially for junior faculty who are trying to establish themselves in their academic fields.

  • Xavier Contemplative Inquiry Team: XCIT supports three main areas of inquiry: 1) contemplative practices, 2) contemplative pedagogies, and 3) contemplative research.

  • Faculty Workshops: see our event listing

  • First Year Faculty Services: CAT+FD is interested in the success of new faculty.

  • Service Learning Partnership: Learn to design your course or assignment around community service.

  • Writing Lock-Ins: CAT+FD offers a "Writing Lock-In" series on a regular, monthly basis during the academic year.
