Bush Update

An update on the proposal submitted to The Bush and William and Hewlett foundations

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching submitted a faculty development proposal to the foundations in September 2001. The Bush Foundation and an outside reviewer have since reviewed the proposal. In mid-December the Center responded to a handful of questions posed by the reviewers, such as:

  1. How would the new program you propose relate to the recent $350,000 Mellon grant for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching?
  2. Do these grants complement or compete for faculty time and energy?
  3. Who was involved in the preparation of and endorsement of the revised proposal?
  4. Was this (proposal) generated by the academic affairs office? What was the level of faculty participation in developing the plan and support for it?
  5. Why do you think the proposed investment of $450,000 in this set of activities will improve teaching and learning at Xavier University?

We anticipate hearing sometime this spring 2002 semester whether the proposal will be funded.
