by Dr. Vida Henderson
The purpose of this course will be to expose students to the current state of healthcare in
various third world countries. Students will learn various aspects of the current
healthcare status of several countries in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Sub-

beliefs and practices that impact healthcare, and the economic development of these
countries. The course will be taught by a series of guest lecturers, who would lecture on
topics of their expertise. Pending on additional funding, students will be given the
valuable experience of teaming with a service organization and travel internationally, on
a relief mission, to a community in one of the countries studied during the course. Upon
return, students will work collaboratively in developing a publication to document
experiences. If monies can not be secured to provide travel, room, and board for the
students, the students will still work collaboratively to produce a publication, which
would incorporate interviews of mission workers, natives now living in the US, and will
serve as reflective documentation of knowledge and experiences gained throughout the
course. The objective of this course is to expand students
