Another FaCTS Mellon Project
Enriching the International Business Curriculum: The Development of a Business Spanish Course
by Dr. Cary A. Caro
The goal of this project is to create a new Business Language course that can be taken by Xavier students who are preparing themselves for international careers and for working in a more global environment. This project seeks to create a course that actively engages students in the regional, national, and multi-national cultures that comprise the 21st century global markets, allows them to gain practical knowledge in Latin American and European cultures, and challenges students to gain the essential skills necessary to conduct business in the global economy. The project aligns with the Core Values of the Division of Business mission of Business Intelligence and Success Driven while at the same time it supports the Xavier Mission statement, preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
This project requires the creation of a new course, complete with: syllabi, activities, student evaluations (exams or otherwise), and instructor responsibilities. The outcomes for the project are: to design and develop student outcomes/goals and objectives, the creation of course descriptions, formulation of syllabi, and creation of activities and evaluations for student participation. The goal is to mold self-aware, confident students who are culturally competent and able to actively conduct business in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking nations of the European Union.
