Another FaCTS Mellon Project
Inverting the Psychological Statistics Classroom
by Dr. Wyndolyn M Ludwikowski
I hope to implement an inverted teaching and learning model by resturcturing an existing course, Psychology 2511: Psychological Statistics, during the 2016-2017 academic year. Lecutes will be provided via Camptasia recordings and PowerPoint slides online via YouTube and Blackboard, and students will be required to familiarize themselves with these course material prior to class, which will be assessed by their completion of formula/definition sheets and concept check quizzes. Students will spend the majority of time in class working on practice problems and questions individually and in groups to more actively engage with concepts in a collaborative atmosphere with individualizd feedback from the professor and peers. Specifically, the objectives of the proposed project are to (1) provide a richer, more active learning environment where more students are engaged in the material during class and receive more immediate, personalized feed back; (2) increase students' ownership of their learning processes, which will nurture growth mindsets of students and improve attitudes toward the course, and (3) increase higher order critical thinking and problem solving skills.
