Another FaCTS Mellon Project
Course Redesign from Traditional Learning to Inverted Learning
by Dr. Willie Jones, III
The proposed project will use the inverted classroom concept of a higher education course in the elementary education curriculum at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). The Department of Teacher Education will benefit from innovative ideas to increase student learning outcomes and engagement. The course designed through assistance with the Mellon Foundation Grant will integrate electronic media such as YouTube, podcast, lecture videos, and Moodle into instruction substituting for in-class lectures and will motivate students to apply and discuss course content. All project requirements will be met and outcomes will be shared to contribute to the professional development of SUNO. The goal of this project aligns with the mission of Southern University at New Orleans and The College of Education and Human Development's Conceptual Framework. A successful implementation of this project may serve as a model for other courses and offer newly developed programs in the department and university.
