SOCIAL NETWORKING AND NEW MEDIA IN COMPOSITION AND LITERATURE

I. Description
Theme-Restructuring of English 1020: English Composition and Literature to be taught in an online format. The course will include both literature and social media components.
a. Logic — The Department of English, more than any other department or program on campus, is responsible for developing our students' abilities to critically read and analyze texts as well as produce critical writing of their own. In this digital age, their writing should reflect an understanding of the unique rhetorical power of digital media.
b. Goals & Outcomes — Students will engage in extensive reading and writing about literature in a variety of online environments.

II. Impact on Curriculum, Instruction, and Faculty Development
a. Existing Course
i. In addition to literary content, this course will include strong focus on rhetorical capabilities of digital media
b. Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness
i. Engaging and responding to students through multiple digital technologies
ii. Research and reflection development of curriculum and evaluation procedures
