Learning Groups
A Hands-on Exploration

On October 14th, Dr. Paul McCreary of the Math Department led a short, introductory workshop on learning groups. This longer, more hands-on workshop will continue the exploration.

You need not have participated in the first workshop to attend this one. All interested faculty are welcome.

A sampling of issues to be addressed:

*When excited, good students go too fast for shy, struggling others, what to do?

*What to do on the first day of the semester?

*What about students teaching each other misinformation and incorrect procedures?

*What about students becoming dependent when they rely on help from classmates?

*What about grading group assignments?

*If better students understand ideas more quickly, how can the instructor be sure that the less advanced students are not left behind?

*How can the body-positioning of instructors have an impact on group work?

*How will students know where they stand relative to the whole class?
