Bridging Social Divides in the Classroom
Faculty Perspectives on Race, Ethnicity, and Culture
Some of the questions that we hope to address are:
-how should we approach the subject of race in our classes?
-should we challenge our students' ideas about race, and if so, how?
-how do our own cultural, ethnic, and/or racial perspective(s) affect our teaching?
-how can we develop a "double perspective" to teach our students effectively if we are the only non-African American in the room?
Before the workshop, please take a moment to read Dr. Elliott Hammer's short essay, "The Only White Guy in the Room."
