Faculty Communities of Teaching Scholars
This workshop will describe CAT's new, Mellon Foundation funded initiative called Faculty Communities of Teaching Scholars (FaCTS). FaCTs will allow faculty to develop and implement innovative curricular and/or pedagogical projects over the course of an academic year.
Faculty participants will be funded to participate in the FaCTS Summer Seminar, a four-day, intensive workshop that will be tailored around an annual theme (our theme this year is Xavier as a Site of Global Citizenship). In addition to the coverage of the theme itself, the seminar will include sessions on innovations in pedagogy and instructional technology, Xavier's mission, and student engagement.
The goals of this initiative include
-helping Xavier faculty become more scholarly teachers (that is, to use pedagogical research to inform teaching practices),
-encouraging faculty involvement in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and
-ultimately enhancing student learning experiences in participating departments and majors.
