Teaching Reading in the Content Classroom
At the core of Read Today, Lead Tomorrow is an effort to show Xavier's students that reading is not only an important activity but a unique set of critical skills for every academic discipline. Over the past year, each department has developed a plan to incorporate an introduction to that skill set in a designated entry-level course. This year, as those newly enhanced courses are being taught for the first time, the departments are developing plans to emphasize the more advanced aspects of that skill set in their designated upper-level courses, which will begin to be taught next fall. On Thursday, October 20, you can hear about some of the creative ways a number of departments have approached this challenge. Dr. Elliott Hammer (Psychology), Dr. Andrea Edwards (Computer Science), Dr. Elizabeth Manley (History), and Dr. Mark Gstohl (Theology) will discuss and answer questions about their departments' plans.
