Read Today, Lead Tomorrow (RTLT)
Reading Guides

Ask any middle- or high-school teacher how they help their students read better, and eventually the conversation will turn to reading guides. These tools, which help students prepare for what they are about to read and give them guidance as they read, are a mainstay for many students before they reach college. Why then aren't they so after the students have entered college?

Dr. Jay Todd (English) will attempt to move beyond this disjunction by discussing how reading guides can be used at the college level to help students read anything from a textbook to a novel. Participants will experiment with how a reading guide influences their own reading and will begin developing reading guides for their own classes.
