A Dominican Perspective

CAT is pleased to present a third installment in our continuing series on "Contemplative Practices in Diverse Traditions." In 2013 we learned about lectio divina and Zen meditation. This semester we have the opportunity to learn about contemplation from a Dominican Friar.

A passage from the Summa Theologica by Thomas Aquinas has become the motto for the Dominican order: Contemplata aliis tradere -- "to give to others the fruit of contemplation."

In this session, we will learn one way of entering into this contemplation. Attendees will be invited to participate in a brief contemplative practice that draws on Dominican perspectives as well as Ignatian traditions.

Fr. Marty Gleeson, O.P., is a Friar of the Order of Preachers and the Prior of St. Anthony of Padua Priory in New Orleans. He entered religious life at age 41 and served as Provincial of the Southern Province of the Dominicans for eight years. Since that time he has been involved in works of evangelization through prayer and preaching. Father Gleeson serves as the Spiritual Advisor of the "Lord, Teach Me to Pray" ministry.
