Motivation and Engagement in the Flipped Classroom

The ideal behind inverted teaching (also known as the flipped classroom) is that students will be more engaged in the classroom and will, therefore, learn more and learn better. As teachers, we all know that ideals are difficult to achieve. This workshop will begin with some better practices for how to effectively engage students in the flipped classroom. Participants will then use those ideas and others to consider how this pedagogical model can be used to further the mission of the university to help with the development of a more just and humane society.

This workshop will be presented using the flipped model. Before the workshop, please read the two short articles linked below. These will lay the foundation for much of our work during the session. We will have a short quiz at the beginning of the workshop based on this material.
