This discussion will illuminate the important role that our lived experiences play in shaping our unique contributions to research, diagnosis, intervention, clinical practice, and society as a whole. Dr. Bell will use her research to highlight some of the common challenges and pitfalls that arise when conducting research with human subjects. Reference to the under identification of mental illness among diverse populations, help seeking, and both cultural and medical mistrust will also be touched on.
