Academics Beyond the Classroom: Brightspace ePortfolio and XULA Digital Commons
With the adoption of Brightspace as our Learning Management System (LMS), Xavier gained access to a robust and integrated eportfolio system. ePortfolios allow faculty and students to present their best work and best efforts in a stylish and meaningful way. Many faculty have begun using eportfolios within their classes to empower students to cultivate and reflect upon their learning in that class, but eportfolios can have an even greater impact on student learning when they reach across the curriculum.
Xavier has also begun developing an institutional repository (XULA Digital Commons) through which faculty and students can share their best scholarly efforts with the rest of the Xavier community and the entire world.
Attendees will see examples of both these digital platforms and will learn how they can take advantage of them for their own work or can use them to help students shape their own online presence, as well as how they can be used for department and college-wide assessment.
