Creating an Impactful and Lasting Faculty-Led Summer Study Program

Now more than ever, it is critical that we expose students to other languages and cultures and help them gain a global perspective in their professions. The Department of Languages at Xavier University has led several successful faculty led trips abroad in countries including Costa Rica, Martinique, and Cuba. The enrollment in the programs have seen a significant increase since 2014. In this workshop, Language faculty will share tactics for success for short-term faculty led programs. They will also discuss longer term programs and the role of languages in the success of our study abroad initiatives.

Workshop participants will learn strategies for creating an impactful and lasting faculty led summer study program, and for integrating languages into their programs. They will also understand the critical role that language plays in the preparation for study abroad programs. Participants will brainstorm ideas that will work for their departments.
