The National Academies Report on The Science of Effective Mentorship in STEMM: Implications for Mentoring at Xavier

Despite the fact that it is an essential element in student success across all disciplines, mentoring is rarely focused on like other aspects of professional development in higher education (e.g., teaching, scholarship and research). Consequently, the National Academies assembled a committee to study evidence-based approaches to mentorship in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) and released a report in December 2019. We will discuss the seminal findings of the report and implications for mentoring at Xavier.
