CCE: Introducing ePortfolios

If you're interested in learning what ePortfolios are and how they can benefit your students, this workshop is for you.

In their recently published study, "Fulfilling the American Dream: Liberal Education and the Future of Work," the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) reports the following finding: "78% of executives and 81% of hiring managers find ePortfolios useful when evaluating recent graduates, versus 51% of executives and 48% of hiring managers who find college transcripts useful." (Click here to access the full report)

An ePortfolio is, essentially, the digital version of the standard student portfolio, a tool many of currently use or have previously used in our classes as a means of evaluating how our students have progressed over the course of the semester with us. ePortfolios offer all the advantages of any digital system: less paper waste; anytime access; ease of updating; etcetera. But ePortfolios also offer an added benefit: students are able to make their portfolios public, or to share them with selected audiences. How many of us have wonderful student portfolios piled up in our offices, portfolios that will never be seen by anyone but us? ePortfolios enable students to share their work -- to document their learning -- with anyone: family members, graduate school admissions committees, future employers.

With Brightspace, Xavier now has access to a robust and integrated ePortfolio system. This workshop will lay the pedagogical foundation for the incorporation of that system into the classroom.
