(Re)Thinking Exams (REPEAT)

Lewis Hine, Boy studying, ca. 1924 The research is clear: students learn better by applying their knowledge. (See, for example, this article in Wired). Active learning is a great way to both get students engaged and to help them learn. Just because we're teaching behind screens doesn't mean we have to give up on active learning. But research also shows that frequent low-stakes assessment of students is more effective (and less stressful) than infrequent high-stakes testing (See, for example, this article from Oberlin College).

If you want to learn about ways you can challenge your students to demonstrate what they've learned while teaching remotely, join us for this workshop. We will discuss and demonstrate ways that focused active learning activities can be used in place of more traditional methods of assessment like quizzes and tests.
