The ideal behind this model is to provide students with the greatest breadth of knowledge of the work produced within the specified parameters of the course. In the case of ENGL 3160, this means literary works produced in America or by Americans between approximately 1600 and 1865; in the case of ENGL 3170, it means works produced between 1865 and the present.
