Faculty Mentoring at Xavier
Part I: FROM the Perspective of Mentors

This discussion, the first of two scheduled for the spring 2002 semester, will address a wide range of questions including:

What are necessary components of a mentoring program at Xavier?

In what ways can the mentor help the new faculty member in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service and collegiality?

Is mentoring really helpful? How do we know and by what criteria do we define "helpful?"

What makes for a good mentor?

What issues and challenges confront mentors and new faculty members?
