Meeting the Challenge
Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities in the University Classroom
This workshop will focus on meeting the needs of individuals with learning disabilities in the university classroom. An overview of characteristics, laws, teaching strategies, accommodations, and modifications will be provided. A discussion of the role of faculty in working with students with learning disabilities will be presented. A simulation video will be used to provide insight into the problems individuals with disabilities encounter in the classroom. Small group sessions will be used to brainstorm ways of addressing these issues in the various disciplines. The Office of Disabled Student Services will be invited to share information on services on Xavier. If at all possible, students with learning disabilities will be invited to share their successes and challenges.
