Blackboard Collaborate
Web Conferencing Basics
Blackboard Collaborate is XU's new Web Conferencing tool! Collaborate offers a live, virtual classroom environment with features that include audio, video, application sharing and content sharing. Collaborate provides the functionality needed to support the 21st century teaching environment. It facilitates a way for faculty and students to interact as if they were meeting face-to-face.
Basic Collaborate features that will be covered during this Web Conference include:
- Readiness
- Web Conference Room Orientation
- Creating Profiles
- Basic Communication Tools (Video, Chat, Talk)
- Using the Interactive Whiteboard
- Application Sharing
Dr. Karen Nichols (CAT) has used Collaborate extensively and will share her experiences, as well as tips and best practices.
Note: You can attend this web conference virtually. If you plan to attend virtually, please run the first time users system check at least 24 hours in advance of the web conference to make sure your computer is setup and ready to go. A headset with microphone is recommended. Headsets will be provided for those who choose to attend the web conference in CAT computer lab (library, rm 532A). While it is sometimes possible to use iPhone headphones that have built-in microphones on VoIP programs like Skype, these headsets can cause heavy interference in Collaborate sessions. Therefore the iPhone type headphones are not recommended.
