Blackboard: Securing the Online Testing Environment
Using Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor

Ensuring the identity of the person taking an assessment and preventing cheating are concerns for professors who give online assessments. Blackboard has two assessment tools that address these concerns.

Respondus LockDown Browser prevents students from doing anything on the computer other than work on the exam. Once the assessment is started, students are locked into the full-screen environment until they submit the test for grading.

Respondus Monitor is a companion program to Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) that integrates webcam technology to record the student's exam sessions. Together RLDB and Respondus Monitor address the core issues of student identity and cheating, creating an essential layer of security for non-proctored assessments.

In this workshop you will learn how to use Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor to secure the online testing environment as well as best practices for setting the online test options. This is a follow-up session to the "Blackboard: Tests and Surveys" workshop. Attendees should have attended the previous workshop or have a basic level of familiarity with creating and administering tests in Blackboard.

NOTE: Sandbox courses are available. If you do not have a Sandbox course and would like to use one during the workshop, you should request one at least 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop.
