Going Beyond Collaborate Basics (Using Breakout Rooms)
Blackboard Collaborate is XU's Web Conferencing tool! Collaborate offers a live, virtual classroom environment with features that include audio, video, application sharing and content sharing. Collaborate provides the functionality needed to support the 21st century teaching environment. It facilitates a way for faculty and students to interact as if they were meeting face-to-face.
In this interactive workshop, participants will build upon the skills acquired in the Blackboard Collaborate Basics and Going Beyond Collaborate Basics (Whiteboard, Application Share, Web Tour) workshops and will focus on "breakout" rooms. Participants will be provided with information and tips to help you work more efficiently and effectively in Collaborate.
Faculty can create breakout rooms inside their Collaborate session to facilitate small group collaboration. Breakout rooms have their own private audio, video, whiteboard, application sharing, etc. The collaboration that takes place in a breakout room is independent of the Main room (and other breakout rooms). Breakout rooms allow faculty to conduct their virtual classroom in the same way they conduct their face-to-face classes.
Note: This workshop will be held virtually. If you plan to attend this workshop from the comfort of your home or office, please run the first time users system check at least 24 hours in advance of the web conference to make sure your computer is setup and ready to go. A headset with microphone is recommended. Headsets will be provided for those who choose to attend the web conference in CAT computer lab (library, rm 532A). While it is sometimes possible to use iPhone headphones that have built-in microphones on VoIP programs like Skype, these headsets can cause heavy interference in Collaborate sessions. Therefore the iPhone type headphones are not recommended.
