Jumpstarting Your Pedagogical Research to Optimize Teaching & Learning

What is optimal teaching?

How do students learn best?

Correspondingly, how can we optimize learning?

Much is written on these topics but few of us have the time to find where the answers to these questions are.

Furthermore, few academics have had the opportunity to develop a "scholarship of teaching" to parallel the long-dominant "scholarship of discovery" embodied in traditional, discipline-based research. This workshop will review some of the key answers to the questions raised above and will include an outline of the defining characteristics of pedagogical research and a pragmatic guide to how to best use and do pedagogical research. Participants will have the opportunity to plan practical, useful projects for their own classes.
